Vienna Festival Chorus

The Vienna Festival Chorus performs regularly with the Vienna Schubert Symphony Orchestra or has its own independent projects. The chorus performs traditional choral and symphonic repertoire and also emphasizes on different styles of world music. One of our most interesting projects in the past was the performance of the Chinese musical Mulan at the Vienna State Opera House. The Chinese composer was the famous Guan Xia and the lead role was sung by Peng Liyuan, one of Chinas most famous singers. The chorus has also performed with well known artists such as Christoph Schlingensief and Peter Sellars. In March 2013 George Bizet's opera, Carmen will be performed at a fort in India; in this performance, Carmen is not a French gypsy- she is Indian- this will be an interesting inter cultural exchange. It will be interesting to see an Austrian chorus dressed as gypsies from Rajasthan! In July there will be a concert tour to Georgia and Azerbaijan.
